Day 1 – Arrival & Jungle Initiation 

  • Pick-up at Puerto Maldonado Airport by your guide. Short city stop to view the confluence of the Madre de Dios and Tambopata Rivers. 
  • Boat transfer along the Madre de Dios to the lodge, set in the rainforest with bungalows, pool, and restaurant. 
  • Welcome drink and check-in to your private bungalow, followed by lunch. 
  • Afternoon guided walk: learn about tropical trees, medicinal plants, and rubber extraction at a reconstructed shiringuero camp. From a viewpoint, watch toucans, macaws, and other birds. 
  • Evening boat excursion: nocturnal caiman safari to spot wildlife along the riverbanks. 
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge. 

Day 2 – Lake Sandoval & Canopy Views 

  • Pre-dawn departure (~05:30) with packed breakfast; early boat ride to Lake Sandoval. 
  • Guided 3 km jungle walk within Tambopata Reserve to spot monkeys, giant trees, snakes, Hoatzin birds, and other wildlife. 
  • Canoe ride on Lake Sandoval searching for giant river otters, various birds, and caimans; breakfast on the lake’s edge. 
  • Return to lodge for lunch; afternoon visit to one of the lodge’s canopy lookout towers (20 or 42 meters high) for panoramic forest views and sunset. 
  • Visit to a Brazil-nut harvesting camp; learn about local livelihoods. 
  • Evening relaxation and dinner at the lodge. 

Day 3 — Machiguenga family visit & chacra (operator program) 

  • Breakfast and short free time at the lodge. 
  • Visit a Machiguenga native family: cultural exchange covering traditional clothes, hunting gear, crafts, music (including ceremonial music), and uses of local plants. The family will demonstrate how natural products are used for housing, clothing and tools. 
  • 20-minute boat ride to a nearby chacra (family farm). Sample seasonal fruits and native produce (cacao, banana, cocona, breadfruit, noni, yucca, lime, etc.) and learn about small-scale, chemical-free agriculture that supplies local markets. 
  • Return to the lodge for lunch. 
  • The afternoon you will have free time: boutique, pool, bar, or optional massage. 
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge. 

Day 4 – Parrot Clay Lick, Market & Departure 

  • Early morning walk to a parrot clay lick: observe colorful parrots feeding on mineral-rich clay — a unique Amazon spectacle. 
  • Breakfast at the lodge. 
  • Return boat transfer to Puerto Maldonado, followed by a visit to the local market for insight into regional products and daily life. 
  • Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
